Apple-1 Texas Instruments 16-Pin Socket Variations

TI closed-border sockets were produced with several very subtle variations, in some cases but not always with different part numbers.

Variation 1 Details

  • TI (“point” dotted “i”) logo with no letter.

  • Non-textured border, sometimes observed with corner pin numbers.

  • Plastic backing.

  • Copper/gold-colored legs, tin inlay.

  • Part number: C8416-02.

  • Date code on package: “A804” (4th week in 1978)?

Variation 2 Details

  • Slightly smaller TI (“point” dotted “i”) logo with no letter.

  • Non-textured border with or without corner pin numbers.

  • Plastic backing.

  • Tin-colored legs, gold-colored inlay.

  • Note: Corner numbers are visible on some but not all Variation 2 sockets. This seems to be true with other variations too.

  • Non-textured border, with or without corner pin numbers (“9” and “16” on this one).
